NGV Ballet and Fashion

It’s hard to admire the intricate detail of ballet costumes from your theatre seat – especially with the magic and energy of a live performance. This makes it an even greater privilege to view the detailed craftsmanship that goes into each and every one at the Ballet and Fashion Exhibition at the NGV.

The exhibition is a double dose of beautiful. Two revered art forms harmoniously combine when you see the stunning costumes crafted by some of the world’s finest fashion designers.

Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Lacroix, Akira Isogawa and Collete Dinnigan are just a few of the exquisite designer pieces on show for ballet productions seen across the world.

The tutu for the Australian Ballet was a clear standout, but the real show stealer was Giles Deacon’s tutu for the Black Swan.

Ballet and Fashion is a real credit to the Australian Ballet as part of their 50th anniversary celebration. It also reveals the remarkable dedication of ballet fashion designers to give you a whole new appreciation of their passion. ☆
